The Developing Leaders Program

target.gifStep 5 - Planning & Strategy

Duration: 1 Day plus project work

Course Descriptor

Planning is an essential activity for achieving results. Organisations rely on their people to carry out functions and tasks in a way that contributes to defined and identified outcomes. It also applies to how you organise yourself, day to day.

Plans that apply to the entire organisation, that establish the organisation’s overall objectives, and that seek to position the organisation in terms of its environment are called strategic plans.  These plans drill down into the organisation: operational plans, business plans and tactical plans.

For an organisation to go in a particular direction, the course must be charted and a strategy set.  Planning & strategy is the continuous process of systematically defining the basic long term objectives of an organisation, identifying quantifiable goals, developing strategies to reach these objectives and goals, making decisions and allocating resources to carry these strategies.

At the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Clearly define the terms planning, goals and goal setting.
  • Identify the steps involved in the planning process.
  • Identify different types of control methods and where they should be used.
  • Apply monitoring processes and actions to resolve problems.
  • Identify the benefits of control.
