Leadership Development Workshops

Strategic Planning
- joining the dots to form the big picture

Duration: 1-2 Days

Target Group:

This workshop is a MUST for anyone required to develop, or participate in the development of sound strategic plans. It guides participants through effectively identifying strategic imperatives and key result areas and then how to bring these to life through sound action planning.

Course Goals:

This is a highly interactive experiential workshop using the BIG DOTS approach to strategic planning. The big dots approach is a visual enhancement enabling participants to clearly identify ‘holes’ within their plan and actively work toward ensuring all aspects of the plan have clear and measurable outcomes.

The model of strategic planning used in this workshop is based on the premise:

  • That any organisation’s vision, aims, values and key result areas should stay the same over the 2-5 year strategic plan
  • The goals and strategies are operational and should link to budget, in this way they are to be reviewed on an annual basis
  • Evaluation and feedback loops should be built in to monitor the plan
  • Individual work plans and performance measures should be attached to the strategies for staff in general and to the KRA’s and goals for management performance agreements
  • A SWOT analysis works in well with this model as it allows a consideration of internal and external factors which may require a strategic response
  • A TNA also links well so that workforce planning can take place a the same time as strategic planning to ensure staff competencies match the tasks at hand.

Course Objectives:

Participants walk away with a workable blueprint or template of their organisational

strategic plan. The plan will clearly align to the organisation’s own pyramid of success through identifying the aims and core values of the organisation and aligning these to key result areas whilst ensuring goals are SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time trackable.
