Learner Guides

A Learner Guide is often also referred to as a Training Manual or Course Manual. This is the subject matter material that contains the content and the learning and assessment (if applicable) activities.

One of the key learning opportunities found in the learner guides are the Activities. The activities are designed to embed the learning through learner involvement, reflection and practise.

Facilitator Guides

The Facilitator's Guide is intended to guide the facilitator through various activities that will bring the learning to life in a group-based workshop environment. It is an annotated version of the Learner Guide so the content is easy to follow.

The annotated text in the Guide suggests various resources a facilitator could utilise such as Video, DVD/CD, PowerPoint Presentation, flip charts etc. It is however, the role of the facilitator to identify the appropriate resource based on the suggestion. So where it is suggested you use video, a title is not recommended, it is for you to identify a pedagogically and culturally appropriate title.

Also, always try to contextualise the learning by using industry and relevant examples, such as newspaper and magazine articles, government reports and local web sites for sources of information.

One of the key learning opportunities found in the learner guides are the Activities. The activities are designed to embed the learning through learner involvement, reflection and practise. As the facilitator you can add further activities as you deem appropriate to contextualise the learning at all times.

It is recommended the facilitator pay particular attention to the interactive nature of the discussion of these activities (detailed in the guide) and always engage your learners in the de-brief process.

Use the lesson plans in conjunction with the annotated text, and your own style and personality to bring the content of the sessions to life for your learners.
